Fire Department Budgets
In Henderson County, fire protection is provided by 12 contracted Fire & Rescue Departments who provide a variety of services to their communities. Funding for the Fire Departments' operations is provided by a rural fire tax district. Several departments also contract with municipalities they serve.
Each department has their own Board of Directors who have the responsibility for financial oversight. The Fire Departments submit their budget requests and corresponding tax rate to the Fire and Rescue Advisory Committee (FRAC) for review annually. This committee reviews each budget request and submits a recommendation for the Board of Commissioners' consideration. The Board of Commissioners adopts a rural fire tax rate as part of their annual budget process.
