Description

The Henderson County Department of Public Health is seeking a full-time Public Health Strategist for Healthy Living to join our Community Health team. We are looking for an energetic and motivated health education professional who cares about improving the health and well-being of our community.

This position will help support community health programs and partnerships focused on healthy living. Responsibilities include helping lead community coalitions; planning and supporting programs and strategies; and working with local partners to improve health outcomes related to physical activity, healthy eating, chronic disease prevention, and other social factors that affect health.

The Public Health Strategist will work closely with community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, and other local partners on health education, community engagement, and policy and systems improvement efforts.

The ideal candidate will have experience with:

  • Working with community groups, coalitions, or partnerships
  • Speaking and presenting to groups of different sizes
  • Creating educational materials or health campaigns
  • Collecting, understanding, and sharing data
  • Working with grants, reports, and program documentation
  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating community programs or health initiatives
  • Building relationships with local organizations and community partners
  • Supporting programs focused on chronic disease prevention, nutrition, physical activity, tobacco prevention, and injury prevention

Schedule

Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. Some evening, weekend, or holiday work may be needed for events, trainings, or public health emergencies. Additional hours and occasional travel may also be required as needed and assigned by the supervisor or Health Director.

Qualifications

Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work well with people from a variety of backgrounds and professional levels; strong organizational and facilitation skills; ability to use sound judgment and work collaboratively with staff, community leaders, and the public. General knowledge of data collection, analysis, and reporting preferred.

General knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration with more specific knowledge of the planning process; and of program areas to which assigned. Ability to communicate effectively with professional and administrative personnel; exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting policies and procedures.

Required Minimum Training and Experience

A master's degree in public or human services administration or a human services programmatic field, preferably with coursework in human services planning and one year of experience in human service program planning or administration; or graduation from a four-year college or university and three years of administrative or consultative experience in a human service program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

       Salary Grade: 75A          Anticipated Hiring Range: $52,201.50 - $67,000 Benefit Eligible

(Hiring salary will be determined based on qualifications and internal equity.)
