Permit Process and Information

Below is link to the most common permitting process by building permit types, including a how-to guide to set up an online citizen portal account. Please note that if  you want to submit a permit application, pay fees online, or schedule an inspection you will need to create an account and login. Instruction to register for an account are provided below. You do not need to create an account or login to view permits or public information in the portal. Just use the search function on the portal.

 

All Residential and Commercial Construction Projects Require a permit and inspection unless excluded by a code or law. Permits are always required if anyone undertakes the following projects, regardless of cost:

  • one- and two-family dwellings and townhomes related to any new construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, movement to another site, removal or demolition of any building
  • commercial work related to any new construction, reconstruction, change of use, alteration, repair, movement to another site, removal or demolition of any building
  • the addition, repair or replacement of load bearing structures
  • the addition (excluding same size and capacity) or change in the design of plumbing
  • the addition, replacement or change in the design of heating, air conditioning, or electrical wiring, devices, appliances, or equipment
  • the addition (excluding replacement of like grade of fire resistance) of roofing
