Drive-thru flu vaccine clinics scheduled at schools for students, staff & families

HENDERSONVILLE, NC (October 5, 2022) – In partnership with Henderson County Public Schools, the Henderson County Department of Public Health will be providing afterschool drive-through flu vaccine clinics at local high schools throughout October.

The flu vaccine will be offered to children, staff and parents in Henderson County Public Schools – as well as the general public – on the following dates:

  • Monday, Oct. 10 from 3:30-6 p.m. at North Henderson High
  • Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 3-5:30 p.m. at Innovative High
  • Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 3:30-6 p.m. at Hendersonville High
  • Monday, Oct. 17 from 3:30-6 p.m. at West Henderson High
  • Tuesday, Oct. 18 from 3:30-6 p.m. at East Henderson High

School staff and family members may visit any drive-through clinic regardless of which school in the county they or their children attend. No appointment is needed.

Only the flu injection (shot) will be offered. Visit www.HendersonCountyFlu.org to download, print and fill out a consent form required to receive the vaccine.

“Our school nurses look forward to offering this opportunity again to students and staff,” said Kim Berry, school nurse supervisor. “Flu can spread easily, and students can be sick with the flu for a week or more, which may cause them to miss school. Getting the flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself from getting the flu.”

Berry added the partnership between the Health Department and Henderson County Public Schools to protect students against the flu also benefits the community with more protection for those unable to get a flu vaccine, fewer absent days for students and fewer missed workdays for parents who must care for sick children.

The Health Department will accept insurance, Medicaid or cash/check only. Insurance companies in-network with the Health Department are listed at www.HendersonCountyFlu.org. The out-of-network cost is $43 cash or check only. Those without insurance are eligible to receive the vaccine at no cost.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends an annual influenza vaccine for everyone six months of age and older. The high-dose flu vaccine for ages 65 and older will not be available at the drive-thru clinics. Individuals can make an appointment for the high-dose vaccine at the Health Department or find another provider at www.vaccines.gov.
