Community CPR, First Aid Classes
Henderson County Department of Public Health is offering free American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR, AED and First Aid classes in July.
Registration is required for each class.
July 1: Heartsaver First Aid
Time: 9:00–11:30 a.m.
Location: Henderson County Department of Public Health Classroom
1200 Spartanburg Hwy., Hendersonville, NC
Enter through the Immunization Clinic entrance. The classroom is to the left, second door on the right.
Heartsaver First Aid teaches participants how to recognize common first aid emergencies, call for help, and respond with lifesaving first aid skills.
What does this course teach?
Heartsaver First Aid covers essential first aid topics, including:
- First aid basics
- Medical emergencies
- Injury emergencies
- Environmental emergencies
- Illness and injury prevention
- Choking relief for adults, children and infants
- Drowning prevention and response
- Opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies

Heartsaver CPR AED teaches participants how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use an automated external defibrillator safely and effectively. This course does not include First Aid.
What does this course teach?
Heartsaver CPR AED covers essential lifesaving skills, including:
- Recognizing the signs of a heart attack or stroke
- Adult CPR and AED use
- Child CPR AED and infant CPR
- Choking relief for adults, children and infants
- Drowning prevention and response
- Opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies
- Upon completion of all course requirements, participants receive a Heartsaver CPR AED Course Completion Card, valid for two years.

The course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs an OSHA-compliant course completion card—or anyone who simply wants to be ready to respond in an emergency.
What does this course teach?
Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED teaches lifesaving skills, including:
- First aid basics
- Medical emergencies
- Injury emergencies
- Environmental emergencies
- Preventing illness and injury
- Adult CPR and AED use
- Choking help for adults, children and infants
- Drowning response and prevention
- Opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies
- Optional modules in Child CPR AED and Infant CPR
Upon completion of all course requirements, participants receive a Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course Completion Card, valid for two years.
