Energy Assistance

Low Income Energy Assistance 

We will begin taking LIEAP applications for our priority group (households with individuals 60+ or disabled individuals received DAAS services) on December 10, 2025.

The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federally-funded program that provides for a one-time vendor payment to help eligible households pay their heating bills.

Types of Medical Assistance Programs 

Medicaid may be available to people who are: 

Food & Nutrition (Food Stamps)

 

Food and Nutrition Services is a federal food assistance program that provides low-income families the food they need for a nutritionally adequate diet. Benefits are issued via Electronic Benefit Transfer cards (EBT cards). 

Emergency Assistance

EA (EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE) 

The Emergency Assistance program is designed to assist families with emergency needs such as utility cut-off, eviction notice etc. Among other criteria, the household must have a child who meets the age requirements living with them and who is in their care, have income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level and meet US Citizenship requirements. 

COVID-19 Measures for Social Services

Hours:  8:00 AM - 4:30 PM; please make an appointment if you need to see a specific worker.

Special Instructions:  Social Distancing will be maintained throughout the lobby area.

Other Information:  Visitors to the Department of Social Services will have their temperatures checked by staff before proceeding into the lobby area.  Anyone with a temperature over 100.4 degrees will be asked to return to their car and call in to the reception staff for assistance.

Healthcare

With rising health care costs even families with middle income can have trouble with medical and insurance costs. Our goal is to assist families with these medical costs. On average, 5,000 elderly and disabled people and 12,000 children received health care through our Medicaid program in Henderson County. Forty three percent of all children ages 0 to 6 in Henderson County received health care paid for by Medicaid.
