Description

The Henderson County Department of Public Health is accepting applications for two (2) Auxiliary Public Health Nurse I – Immunization positions. This position supports the primary Immunization PHN’s responsibilities for immunization administration including promoting age-appropriate immunizations for the children of Henderson County and other clients in the community, assuring compliance with immunizations administration standards provided by state and federal agencies, and assuring availability and efficacy of required and recommended vaccines. This employee also performs related immunization nurse duties such as administering and reading Tuberculosis Skin Tests (TST) and referring positive tests for further evaluation. The Auxiliary Immunization PHN will be cross trained to enable them to provide support for the Foreign Travel, Tuberculosis Control and Communicable Disease Programs. The Auxiliary Immunization PHN may also work with community partners to facilitate, organize and carry out outreach events.

 

Schedule

The Auxiliary Public Health Nurse will work as needed, typically within normal business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm), but could also include extended hours/weekends. Preferred schedule would be at least 2-3 days per week for an entire shift. This position is limited to less than 1,000 hours in a 12-month period and is not benefit eligible.

 

Qualifications

Basic knowledge of, and skill in, the application of nursing theory, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs; understanding of best practices, safety standards, and therapeutic outcomes related to the specific area(s) of practice; working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health, including health disparities; working knowledge of available resources and organizations; ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions; ability to work in partnership with patients and with other service providers to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships; ability to accurately record services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports and medical instructions; some ability to oversee the work of others; adequate computer skills to allow communication, patient record documentation, accessing information.

 

Required Minimum Training and Experience

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing; A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Pay Rate: $36.62 per hour (non-benefit eligible position)

Grade:     77A

Hiring salary will be determined based on qualifications and internal equity.
