Auxiliary Public Health Nurse I- Clinic
Description
Henderson County Department of Public Health provides medical, nursing and disease control services to patients on an outpatient basis. Programs include Maternal Health, Family Planning, Well Child Care and Pediatric Primary Care, limited adult health services, Behavioral Health, Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention Program (BCCCP), HIV/STD Testing, Evaluation, Treatment and Surveillance, Communicable Disease Surveillance and Control, Tuberculosis Control, Immunizations, and Foreign Travel. Services include psycho-social assessment, physical exam, diagnosis and treatment, immunizations, communicable disease investigation, treatment surveillance and reporting, health education and referral for additional services as needed.
This employee provides professional nursing services for clients presenting to the health department for clinic services. Clients are primarily indigent and medically underserved and frequently present with multiple health problems and socio-economic issues requiring complex nursing assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Major responsibilities of the PHN II position include managing workflow of assigned area or team, delegating tasks to assigned clinic staff, providing nursing assessment, education and referral to services, and managing assigned programs. PHN II is responsible for direct patient care which includes intake and exit interviews, client counseling and teaching, triage, carrying out provider orders and assisting with procedures.
Schedule
The Auxiliary Public Health Nurse will work as needed, typically within normal business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm), but could also include extended hours/weekends. The preferred schedule would be at least 2-3 days per week for an entire shift.
Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of, and skill in, the application of nursing theory, practice, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs; considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health; knowledge of available resources and organizations and the ability to coordinate these as needed; general knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health, including health disparities; ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee the work of others; ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions; ability to work in partnership with patients and with other service providers to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships; ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions; adequate computer skills to allow communication, patient record documentation, and accessing of information.
Required Minimum Training and Experience
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.
A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
