Lead Zoning Enforcement Officer
Duties and Responsibilities: This position Researches and investigates complaints involving possible violations of codes and ordinances assigned to the Code Enforcement Services Department; interprets land use laws and related regulations to property owners, developers, contractors and other County departments or government agencies; enforces corrective measures including formal legal steps to ensure compliance. This position also Performs complex work in the administration and enforcement duties of the Henderson County Land Development Code, Public Health Nuisance Ordinance and Solid Waste Ordinance and other land use regulations; performs related work as required. Exercising considerable tact and firmness in dealing with property owners and contractors; consistently exercise discretion and independent judgment in duties; and exercise considerable tact and courtesy in the public contact work. Work is performed under general supervision exercising latitude, judgement, and discretion of violations. Reports to the Code Enforcement Services Director.
Qualifications: Extensive knowledge of the Henderson County Land Development Code, Nuisance Ordinance, Solid Waste Ordinance and related regulations; knowledge of the geographic layout of the County; knowledge of office computer software and other technology used to perform position duties; skilled in database development and management; ability to read and interpret cadastral, orthophoto, topographical, and other maps; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to safely and efficiently operate a motor vehicle; ability to attend work regularly; excellent interpersonal skills.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, planning, business administration, or related field, and considerable experience in local government setting in progressively responsible positions including supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. Master’s degree in public administration desirable.
