Food & Nutrition (Food Stamps)

Food and Nutrition Services is a federal food assistance program that provides low-income families the food they need for a nutritionally adequate diet. Benefits are issued via Electronic Benefit Transfer cards (EBT cards).

The SUN Bucks program is back for 2026! SUN Bucks is a program that provides grocery-buying benefits in a one-time payment of $120 per eligible child. These benefits can be used to buy nutritious food during the summer months when schools are out and will be issued on a new SUN Bucks card that will function like a debit card. 

SUN Bucks benefits will start to be issued when summer break begins. Many children in North Carolina will be automatically enrolled and won't need to apply. Visit the NCDHHS SUN Bucks website linked below for more information on automatic eligibility and how to apply.
