Auxiliary Social Worker II - Adult Services Intake

Duties and Responsibilities: This position will support Adult Services Intake, primarily by accepting, thoroughly documenting, and processing reports of alleged abuse, neglect, or exploitation of disabled adults. Consults with the supervisor as needed on screening decisions and communicates screening decisions to reporters when requested. Provides outreach to share information about available community resources when reports are on screened out. Additionally, this position will accept referrals for other Adult Services programs and services, including but not limited to facility complaints, guardianship, Adult Placement, In Home Aide, unclaimed bodies, and Information & Referral (I&R). This role requires fielding a wide variety of incoming calls—often on diverse or complex issues—and using sound judgment to determine the nature of each concern and the appropriate referral or response.

 

Qualifications: Working knowledge of agency and community resources including all Adult Services programs. Ability to work with professionals in other disciplines, i.e. health professionals of all types, pharmacists, Division of Health Service Regulation, and other county DSS agencies. Knowledge of interpersonal communications and several methods of interpersonal help or treatment.  Knowledge of racial, ethnic, and other cultural groups in society including their values and lifestyles is necessary.  Significant skills in counseling, interviewing, conflict-resolution, and listening to others with understanding and purpose; in creating and maintaining professional helping relationships. Knowledge of gerontology, mental illness, substance use disorder, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Ability to work with emotionally confused, disoriented clients. Strong working knowledge of medical diagnoses and terminology, levels of care, and pharmacology. Ability to develop non-threatening rapport with others. Ability to be flexible within the system.

 

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work; or a four-year degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and one year of social work or counseling experience, or a four-year degree from an accredited college or university and two years of social work or counseling experience.

Must successfully complete any/all State mandated training relevant to this position. At least two year’s experience working with the target population is strongly preferred.  Experience with Medicaid program is helpful.  Some training or experience in the medical field, such as nursing, is helpful.  Knowledge of community resources is strongly preferred.

Salary Range: $25.88 - $42.47

Hiring salary will be determined based on qualifications and internal equity.
