Foreign Language Interpreter II - Appointment Desk/Clinic Interpreter

Description: Henderson County Department of Public Health is accepting applications for one full-time Appointment Desk/Clinic Interpreter position in the Front Desk-Clinic Support division. This position provides support for clinical services by operating the appointment desk, providing interpreting services in Spanish and English, and providing staff coverage as needed to support front desk operations. Appointment desk duties include, but are not limited to, scheduling appointments by telephone and in person, patient check-out, and collecting payments for services rendered. Interpreting duties include phone calls and in-person interpreting for all areas in the clinic setting, and as needed with various other departments in this agency. This position works directly with the public and clinic staff and is supervised by the Front Desk Supervisor.

Schedule: Work week is typically 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm, with 1 hour for lunch. Alternate or additional hours (including weekends and holidays) may be required to meet department, public health response, or client needs. This position will rotate late check-out duties as needed.
 

Recruitment Standards: Knowledge of the social, economic, and environmental conditions of clients served. Knowledge of the community and available resources. Interpersonal skills for establishing rapport and relating to the population served and to a variety of service disciplines (physicians, mid- wives, nutritionists, nurses). Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, in English and Spanish.  Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to understand and speak Spanish and English (interpreting and translating).
 

Required Minimum Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or GED and one year of experience in interpreting and translating English and Spanish in a setting that requires a knowledge of the programs and services, preferably in a health care or human services setting.  Demonstration of the fluency and skill necessary to meet the needs of the organization and the client populations served.
