Summer Reading 2026

Join us for “Unearth a Story” this summer at the Henderson County Public Library! We have a schedule full of fun events for children, teens, and adults with lots of chances to win prizes. To get started, pick up your activity card (preschool) or reading card (children, teens, and adults) from your local library!

Don’t want to wait for a visit to the library to get started? You can create an online account through Beanstack starting June 1st!
Go to http://hendersonnc.beanstack.org to begin tracking the time you spend reading with badges and more.

When does it start?
You can pick up your reading card starting Monday, June 1st from any Henderson County Library. Join us for our big Summer Reading Kick-Off Party at the Main Library on June 1st from 2-4pm. We will have face-painting, fun games, and more!

Can my whole family participate?
Of course! We will have cards for all ages: preschool, elementary, teens, and adults. We want everyone to have fun reading this summer! Just pick the card created for your age group.

How can I win prizes?
Kids & Teens: Turn in your completed card for a free book AND a chance to win the grand prize for your age group.
Adults: Turn in your completed card for a chance to win the grand prize for your age group.

What is the grand prize for each age group?                                                                                                      
Preschool Prize: Tiny T-Rex and the Impossible Hug Book + Stuffie, Dinosaur Puzzle and more!
Elementary Prize: Geode Cracking Kit, Large Dino Stuffie and more!
Teen Prize: Prize Bag + $50 Gift Card for Barnes & Noble
Adult Prize: Prize Bag + $50 Gift Card for Barnes & Noble

What if I want more chances to win?
Every sheet holds two cards. Complete the additional card for an extra chance to win.

Make sure everything is turned in by Friday, July 31st to be eligible to win the grand prize for your age group!
