2026 General Obligation Bond Referendum - Farmland Preservation

Henderson County voters will see a Farmland Preservation General Obligation Bond referendum on the November 2026 ballot. If approved, the bond would provide funding for the county’s existing Farmland Preservation Program, which works with willing landowners to permanently conserve farmland by purchasing development rights.

General Obligation bonds require voter approval and, if authorized, would be issued according to state law and oversight by the N.C. Local Government Commission. Repayment would occur through property taxes.

If approved, The Farmland Preservation General Obligation Bond may authorize up to $25 million in funding.  For a homeowner with an assessed property value of $400,000, the estimated property tax increase would result in approximately $40.40 in additional annual Henderson County property taxes.
