Pot Shoal Road Update
DN01088-Pot Shoal Road Update
Current Status: Road is closed to through traffic due to unsafe conditions.
Construction Progress: Approximately 20% complete
Recent focus areas:
- Debris and waste material removal to clear blocked drainage pipes
- Regrading and seeding of slopes
- Preparation for large rock embankments and soil nail walls (to begin within weeks)
Timeline:
- Overall Completion Goal: March 11, 2026
- Intermediate Completion Time (ICT #1): September 12, 2025
Utility Coordination & Right of Way:
- NCDOT R/W has secured Right of Entry with most property owners
- Active coordination with Henderson Maintenance, AT&T, and Duke Energy
Duke Energy Work:
Site 2008 (right side from NC 176 past the power plant):
- Drilling scheduled to begin May 19 and last approximately 3 week
- Road to remain closed for 5 weeks total (3 weeks Duke+ 2 weeks SOC)
Site 2009 (left side uphill from site 2008)
- Drilling to begin mid-June, after completion of site 2008
- Towers will be outside the ROW; final plans pending geotechnical review
Contractor Activities During Duke's Work:
- While Duke works on site 2008, SOC will:
- Seed slopes, inspect and repair pipes, grade ditches
- Backfill behind headwall with soil/riprap and construct riprap ditch
- After Duke completes site 2008, SOC will swap to that location to complete road repairs (~2 weeks)
Anticipated Milestone:
- By early July, SOC should complete work past the power plant
- When Duke returns in August/September, no further schedule conflicts expected
Estimated Completion of SOC Scope: Late August to early September, assuming Duke's drilling stays on track
