Animal Services Center Supervisor
Duties and Responsibilities: This assists the Animal Services Director in planning, organizing and supervising Companion Animal Mobile Equipment Trailer (C.A.M.E.T.) and technical activities and shelter-related events, policy and procedure development, oversight and preparation of reports. Responds to and resolves complaints from the public. Provides limited supervision to shelter staff in the absence of the Director. This position also performs intermediate technical work in the supervision and daily operation of the County’s Animal Shelter. Supervises veterinary technicians and kennel technicians; coordinates C.A.M.E.T. operation; performs related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Reports to the Animal Services Director.
Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of the care, control, and handling of dogs, cats and other small animals; of the Animal Welfare Act and other federal, state and local laws and regulations applicable to animal control and the operation of an animal shelter; custodial/maintenance needs of a shelter facility, equipment and grounds; principles and practices of animal shelter operation, sanitation and disease control. General knowledge of various breeds of animals; symptoms of common animal diseases; humane euthanasia standards and certification requirements; ability to recognize signs of rabies and other common diseases of animals; ability to treat canines and felines for parasites utilizing Anthelminthic medications; ability to review veterinary records and effectively consult with veterinarians regarding proper treatment of animals in the shelter; operate equipment necessary for the position, including computer; ability to supervise the work of others; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; ability to attend work regularly. Required to be certified by the State of North Carolina to perform euthanasia or obtain certification within 6 months of start date.
