Mobile Hotspot Lending Policy

The library circulates a limited number of mobile hotspots to provide remote Internet access to patrons. To borrow a mobile hotspot, users must meet the following criteria and agree to the following stipulations.

  1. You must be a resident of Henderson County 17 years of age or older to borrow a mobile hotspot.
  2. You must have a Henderson County Public Library Card in good standing (no lost or damaged material on account). You may only check out a hotspot using your own library card.
  3. Only one person at a time in your household may borrow a hotspot.
  4. Hotspots are checked out for a period of 14 days.
  5. Your hotspot will automatically renew up to two times if there are no hold requests for the hotspot. If there are hold requests, your hotspot will need to be returned by the due date.
  6. You must return a hotspot to a staff member; you may not return a hotspot in a bookdrop.
  7. If you lose or damage a hotspot or components of the device, you will be charged the following lost/damaged replacement costs (fines/fees in excess of $25 are turned over to a collection agency):

Mobile hotspot -- $94
Cord/charger -- $10
Case -- $5

  1. All aspects of the Henderson County Public Library Internet Access and Safety Policy apply when using a library hotspot.

*The library has no control over material on the Internet, and cannot be held responsible for its content.
*An Internet filter is applied to library hotspots to protect against visual depictions that are obscene, child pornography or harmful to minors as defined in the Child Internet Protection Act [Pub. L. No. 106-554]. Users should be aware that no filter is one hundred percent effective.
*It is the responsibility of parents/ guardians/ caregivers, not the library, to determine what is appropriate for their minor children; parents/ guardians/ caregivers are responsible for any information accessed or observed by their minor children while using library hotspots.

  1. Internet access via library hotspots and the quality of access are subject to the availability of cell phone coverage, over which the library has no control.
  2. General operational support for hotspots is available only during hours the library is open. Call 828-697-4725 for assistance.
