Henderson County EMS is a progressive 911 EMS agency that currently staffs eight dual-paramedic EMS units. Our department serves two local hospitals, one regional trauma center and is supported by a separate agency that handles all convalescent transports. Working 12-hour shifts, our medics can enjoy their time off hiking, biking, and enjoying all the activities that the mountains of Western North Carolina have to offer. Henderson County is accepting applications for auxiliary paramedic positions with Emergency Medical Services. Applicants must:

  • Possess a current paramedic certification OR
  • Possess EMT or AEMT certification, currently be enrolled in a paramedic program, and obtain paramedic certification by June 30, 2025

Testing is required and includes written, practical, and physical ability assessments. Previous emergency medical services experience is preferred. Pre-employment screenings are required for all finalist applicants.

Starting Salaries

  • Paramedic I – Starting at $29.00 (4 % increase after orientation)
  • Advanced EMT - $26.85
  • Emergency Medical Technician - $25.82

 Hiring salary will be determined based on qualifications and internal equity.
