STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA                                                   BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

COUNTY OF HENDERSON                                                                                                 JULY 23, 2008            

 

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners met for a special called meeting at 9:00 a.m. at the new Blue Ridge Community College Technology Building for a tour.

 

Those present were:  Chairman Bill Moyer, Commissioner Larry Young, Commissioner Chuck McGrady, Commissioner Charlie Messer, Assistant County Manager Selena Coffey, and Public Information Officer Pam Brice.

 

Also present were:  BRCC President Dr. Molly Parkhill, Dean of Technology and Development David Hutto, Dean of Administrative Services David Whitson, Instructor Celeste Oprean, Blue Ridge Community College Board of Trustees and members of the media.

 

Absent was Commissioner Mark Williams.

 

TOUR OF THE NEW BLUE RIDGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE TECHNOLOGY BUILDING

David Hutto led those in attendance on a tour of the new technology center, and President Dr. Molly Parkhill gave a brief power-point presentation of the college strategic plan and updates.  David Whitson gave a brief overview of the master facility plan, and Celeste Oprean provided information in regards to the new programs that are being offered at the Technology Center.

 

Assistant County Manager Selena Coffey updated the Board of Commissioners on the seizure of 44 animals, 29 dogs and 15 cats, from a Flat Rock home by the Sheriff’s Department Animal Enforcement Division.  Ms. Coffey summarized that the animals were taken from the home after several complaints from neighbors.  Of the animals taken, 4 were taken immediately to a veterinarian for medical treatment and the remaining 40 animals are being housed at the Animal Services Center.

 

No action was taken.
